A training programme designed to give you the fullest and widest OMFS experience possible

When you train in OMFS in the East Midlands you'll benefit from a training programme designed to minimise your travel across the region. While you won't have to move home or commute long distances you'll still benefit from varied and diverse training and experience of a range of trainers, ways of working and approach.

You'll join a programme with an aim to deliver training in the fullest and widest remit of the specialty, including dentoalveolar surgery. Orthognathic planning and surgery is taught across the region while a recently introduced module means you will learn about Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy planning and provision in parallel with Head and Neck surgical training.

You'll gain experience in two Major Trauma centres with regional air ambulance helicopter retrieval while four of the region's A&E departments are major city emergency centres. There are also major University links at no less than five departmental training units.

You'll also benefit from experience in some of the country's leading facilities. The regional Cleft Unit is centred in Nottingham while the Teaching Dental Hospital, specialist Childrens’ Hospital and specialist Skull Base techniques are all based in Sheffield. All of the larger units in the East Midlands are centres for Oncology including all varieties of reconstructive procedures and a heavy exposure to microvascular surgery.

East Midlands offers lots of OMFS research opportunities

As well as a superb training programme, training in Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery in the East Midlands offers you lots of research opportunities.

Research supervision is available via the Universities of Sheffield, Nottingham, Derby, Lincoln and Leicester and in your first year you'll be encouraged to establish a thread of interest leading to a main research project.

In addition, you'll be required produce at least one peer reviewed publication each training year to develop your knowledge and skills.
