Develop your Plastic Surgery career at leading facilities in three of England's top cities

When you come to the East Midlands to train in Plastic Surgery you'll join a high quality programme covering the full curriculum. You'll develop your skills and knowledge in a supportive, expert and knowledgeable environment and gain exposure to a wide range of patients.

The region boasts some superb facilities, including:

  • Leicester Royal Infirmary - This department was ranked top of all UK plastic surgery departments in a recent PMETB trainee survey. Here you'll get a breadth of general plastic surgery experience with particular exposure to breast and lower limb reconstruction, microsurgery and skin cancer management. You'll also gain experience in the burns facility and the hand surgery emergency service
  • Nottingham Queen's Medical Centre and City Hospital - Here, you'll benefit from lots of plastic surgery sub-specialty experience. Nottingham is a designated Burns Unit providing adult and paediatric care for resuscitation burns and the regional Cleft Lip and Palate service and Paediatric Burns Service are based in the city. Head and neck, breast and lower limb reconstruction form a significant part of the workload in the department
  • Pulvertaft Hand Centre in Derby - You'll train at a facility that is internationally recognised as a centre of excellence for the treatment of hand conditions. You'll gain experience of routine elective and emergency hand conditions as well as exposure to more complex hand and wrist problems, often with tertiary referrals for diagnostic and treatment complexities. The plastic surgery team within the hand centre also provide a lower limb reconstruction service. The regional brachial plexus service is based at Derby and there is also a congenital hand service

You'll benefit from fortnightly consultant delivered teaching days in addition to in-house teaching with journal club and clinical teaching. And, cadaveric dissection sessions and exam preparation tutoring are amongst recent additions to the ever-improving programme.

When you train in Plastic Surgery in the East Midlands you're located in a region that offers easy access to your various placements via the excellent road network and superb regional rail links. Getting around the East Midlands is easy and it's just over an hour by train to London and Birmingham.

As well as being centrally located, the East Midlands also offers lots to do in your spare time. You can enjoy international sport, walking in the Peak District, a thriving live music scene, Michelin starred restaurants and world-class art, drama and culture.
