From August 2007 a new postgraduate specialty training structure was introduced.  Specialist registrars appointed prior to August 2007 may continue to train using the curriculum to which they were appointed.  The 'Orange Guide' (A Guide to Specialist Registrar Training) will continue to be applicable to those who remain on the old curriculum.  Doctors entering the new specialty training programmes from  August 2007 should follow the 'Gold Guide'  (A guide to Postgraduate Specialty Training).  The First Edition is applicable  to trainees taking up appointments from 1 August 2007 to 5 August 2008 and the Second Edition is applicable to trainees taking up  appointments on or after 6 August 2008.

Record of In-training Assessment (RITA) - Specialist Registrars (SpRs)

The Record on In-training Assessment  provides a record of the annual review and therefore of the Specialist Registrar's (SpR) progress through his/her training programme and the Grade.

The Orange Guide can be downloaded here.

The Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCP) Specialty Registrar (ST) trainees

The annual review panel provides a formal process which uses the evidence gathered by the trainee relating to his/her progress in the training programme. It is normally undertaken on at least an annual basis for all trainees undertaking specialty training and will enable the trainee to document that the competences required are being gained at an appropriate rate and through appropriate experience.
