Why you should train in anaesthetics in the East Midlands

One of the main benefits of living and working in the East Midlands is that you have easy access to a wide number of hospitals without the need to move home. This means you'll benefit from experience in a range of different hospitals while benefiting from the stability of knowing that you, your partner and your family can work long term in the same area.

When you come to the East Midlands you'll learn in large regional hospitals serving millions of people. You'll benefit from unrivalled local expertise in regional anaesthesia in Derby and Nottingham as well as a department that serves the busiest trauma centre in the UK. And, with well established advanced airway teaching and research, you'll have opportunities that you won't find elsewhere.

For example, in Nottingham you'll join the leading emergency surgery/anaesthesia centre in the UK, setting the standards for emergency surgery nationwide. And, in Leicester, you'll join a specialist team leading the way in cardiac anaesthesia.

When you train in Anaesthetics in the East Midlands you'll also benefit from grant-funded research opportunities.  The academic department in the East Midlands is one of the largest in the country and undertakes a wide portfolio of research from in silico modelling of basic science, educational and patient safety research to Biomedical Engineering and Applied Optics.

You'll also be supported by national and international level experts in a range of sub-specialties including:

  • obstetric anaesthesia
  • regional anaesthesia
  • trauma and emergency surgery
  • simulation
