Lincolnshire Programme
Lincolnshire as a county is scenically and geographically varied and attractive and includes the Lincoln escarpment on which the beautiful medieval Cathedral stands, the North Lincolnshire Wolds, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty and the extensive beaches of the coastal strip. The Lincolnshire Programme is one of the oldest in the country and offers excellent personal training for General Practice. We are a well-established friendly training programme with a high standard of teaching designed to meet group and individual needs. It has a mixture of urban and rural training practices which allows for a diverse experience of primary care.
Lincolnshire successfully mixes 2000 years of heritage with a lively arts and events programme. Family life in Lincolnshire is more pleasant and less expensive on a national scale (including housing), with good primary and secondary education.
GPStRs think highly of the Programme and many of them have gone on to practise locally on completion of their training. We have highly motivational Trainers and Programme Directors, and benefits from a wide choice of excellent training practices are available, including rural dispensing practices in village locations or small market towns and urban practices.
The programmes comprise a mix of general practice posts and hospital specialties: A&E, Paediatrics, Elderly Care, O&G, Cardiology, Psychiatry, Psychogeriatrics, Community Psychiatry, Acute Medicine, Palliative Care and Trauma & Orthopaedics. Hospital based posts cover Lincolnshire Partnerhsip NHS Foundation Trust (Psychiatry posts) and United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust which include Lincoln County Hospital and Pilgrim Hospital, Boston.
East Midlands has been allocated a small number of TERS payments in Sherwood Forest and Lincolnshire as part of the Targeted Enhanced Recruitment Scheme (TERS) - https://gprecruitment.hee.nhs.uk/Recruitment/TERS/England
Within Lincolnshire there are two main areas, Lincoln and Boston.
Boston
The Education Centre-based teaching is half day release for all trainees. The emphasis of the teaching varies according to the stage of training. There is an emphasis throughout on developing communication skills. Knowledge-based topics tend to be the main focus of GPRs in their first 2 years providing the basis for success in the AKT element of MRCGP. ST3s teaching is focused towards enhancing success in the CSA followed by sessions aimed at preparing the GPR for independent practice once they qualify.
If you have any queries on the Boston area you should contact Avis Staff, Programme Manager on 01205 364801 ext. 5340 (direct line: 01205 445340) or Avis.Staff@ulh.nhs.uk.
Lincoln
There is a regular and varied programme of postgraduate education based at the well-equipped Postgraduate Education Centre within Lincoln County Hospital. A comprehensive half-day release course is run throughout the 3 year programme. The subjects discussed cover a wide variety of topics in preparation for entry into General Practice.
The Lincoln Programme enjoys a mutually beneficial relationship with Trainees and Trainers from RAF Cranwell, providing a different perspective on medicine for all concerned. RAF Trainees participate in our Half-day Release Programme and their Trainers actively attend our Trainers' Workshop meetings.
When in ST3, trainees have the opportunity to attend Dermatology Clinics.
