Workforce, training and education
East Midlands

The GP Directorate is responsible for the Postgraduate Medical Education of General Practitioners across the East Midlands.  We have educationalists in Primary and Secondary Care ensure that there are high quality learning opportunities, appropriate to GP training, in the Trusts and Practices all across in East Midlands. We have long standing relationships with the Undergraduate Departments of the Universities of Derby, Leicester, Lincoln, Northampton, Nottingham and De Montfort University which enable us to provide a wide range of programmes and learning opportunities in healthcare. We are committed to life long learning and have a team of GP tutors who facilitate the ongoing continued development of GPs throughout their careers in Primary Care. The diversity of our population and the variety in the sites where healthcare is delivered mean that the East Midlands has an enviable range of opportunities for learning.

We currently have a wide variety of GP Specialty Training programmes covering the new GP curriculum across 3-year programmes. The programmes are directed by teams of enthusiastic educators who ensure that the teaching is of a high quality and focussed on the needs of future GPs.

The East Midlands is a fabulous area in which to live, work, learn and play.  We aim to provide the highest standards of training opportunities and expect high standards and excellent results from our trainees.  We aim to attract the best doctors to train and to teach in East Midlands and are committed to supporting their development throughout what we believe is a truly fulfilling career.
